The idea of Munio or candle making began when our founder Elina owned a cafe. There were candles everywhere to create an ambiance. Burning through hundreds of candles each month came at a cost. There had to be a better way. Elina began researching candle making and stumbled upon soy wax as an alternative to paraffin. It burned twice as long! Elina and two friends turned candle making into a hobby in 2007, which quickly grew into a business. An opportunity presented itself to attend a well-known trade show in Japan, they couldn't say no despite the lack of experience. Figuring out all the logistics was difficult, but it taught them a new set of skills that is still useful today.
Right from the get-go it was clear that Munio would represent its Northern origins by showcasing scents found in the northern nature - forests, meadows, and countryside air. Even more, creating eco and organic products was equally as important.
